I was born in the summer of 1969 in Istanbul, one of the most amazing cities in the world. As a little kid I loved to disappear after putting my grandma to sleep, fly kites and take off by my bicycle. Perhaps that is when I got the travel bug. After 4 different elementary schools I, luckily, found myself learning English at the Kadikoy Anatolian High School, one of the best in Turkey. Then, I almost studied engineering; but I made a sudden decision and shifted to travel. While I was studying Tourism & Hotel Management at the Bosphorus University (first American college in the world outside the US, 1863) I was teaching English, science and math part time, playing semiprofessional basketball and having a great time. In April 1988 I found myself guiding for the first time. It was challenging and fun; I traveled for free and got paid for it. Great deal for a student! When I was doing my hotel training that summer I met many foreign guests and professional tour guides, and decided to become one myself.
I was licensed as an official, all Turkey guide by the Ministry of Tourism after a 6-month course in 1989.Then I got my Hotel Management degree; and then another one in Business at the open university which allowed me time to work as a full-time, free-lance tour guide.
In 1991, I also started leading Turkish groups abroad; which is great for me to see the world, compare countries and cultures and understand different people.
In the winter 1993-94, Pacha Tours Int. sent me to the US for 4 months to promote Turkey and their tours to American people and tourism professionals; so I found myself giving lectures and slide presentations. That experience made me feel more international and, I believe, it improved my service quality through understanding my American guests and their needs better, and having more to share with them.
I love to travel in Turkey and abroad (about 40 countries) for pleasure, discover the world, add more countries to my tour leading repertory, try interesting things (fly to Mt. Everest, skydive, scuba dive, ride horses, motorcycles, concerts etc) and meet people.
I feel so lucky that I ended up becoming a tour guide; it is the greatest school of life and a great way of making a living for a free-spirited, independent minded person like me. Especially, so diverse with her people, culture, geography, nature, thousands of ruins and monuments, cuisine...what better place in the world to be a guide than in TURKEY...
"There is no land on earth like a breath of health!"
Suleyman the Magnificent- Ottoman Sultan & Poet
"May we all have the health, wealth, time and spirit to travel; and I hope to be your guide in Turkey soon."
