Ahmet Memis: Biography

I was born 32 year ago in Istanbul!!! Don't ask me which continent? Maybe Europe or Asia or neither; maybe right between: On the Bosphorus as a Eurasian. I was raised in Istanbul where I completed my elementary and high school education. Then I found myself in London where I studied Tourism Management in St.Giles College.

I always wanted to be independent and never liked the idea of sitting in the office 9 to 5, so I took the exam of Ministry of Tourism of Turkish Republic to qualify as a professional tour guide and get the license to be able to talk about this country. That was 12 years ago and realized how much I didn't know about this land of civilizations. I was so embarrassed and now I am still learning more and more. I realized speaking English wasn't enough in this job and I found myself in Germany learning German between 1992/93 at the Goethe Institute.

I have a special interest on Birds of Turkey as I sometimes lead bird watching tours.

Turkish Tour Guides website is an online catalogue for tourist guides who would like to take place here and is owned by TUREB - Federation of Turkish Tour Guide Associations. Total number of tourist guides nationwide is more than 9000 and not all of them are included here.
