Necati Tuncer: Biography

Born in Safranbolu in 1933, a small town in the heart of Anatolia which is now an open-air museum with its old Ottoman style wooden houses, I travelled a great deal with my parents as I grew up. Since my father had frequent assignments throughout Turkey, we moved around a great deal and finally settled in Izmir in 1949. That is where I graduated from the Technical High School as a young and enthusiastic man beginning to learn English.

My first trip abroad was to Korea where I gained a great deal of knowledge and experience . While taking my first lessons to become a tour guide, I was a student of Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli, the famous ''Fisherman of Halicarnasus”, the father of Turkish tour guides. I attended the first guide course of the Ministry of Tourism and became a licensed professional tour guide covering all of Turkey in 1961. I escorted groups and individual travellers as an amateur during my weekends and on my annual leaves from work for NATO, Etibank General Management and DUTILH Travel Agency.

Then in 1978, I began full-time guiding professionally as both a tour guide and a tour manager. I now have over 35 years of experience in the tourism industry as a Travel Agent as well as a Tour Guide. I enjoy working with people and am anxious to travel and share with them all of the fascinating things that make Turkey special – as only a native of Turkey would know. I am also available to help my tour clients in all respects with their travel plans ensuring a memorable and enjoyable vacation. I am very healthy and active. Driving, fishing and swimming are some of my hobbies. I love travelling and being a guide and tour leader.
